Six genuinely adults-only or effectively adult properties across Iceland, from the $1,400-a-night Retreat to $180 farm stays where nobody under 16 is even on the property.

The splurges

The Retreat at Blue Lagoon ($1,400+) is the only true five-star adults-only in Iceland — private lagoon access, subterranean spa, no children on property. Silica Hotel ($650) allows kids but rarely sees them; the vibe is honeymoon. Deplar Farm in Fljot ($3,000 all-in) technically permits families but is booked out by couples and heli-ski groups nine months of the year.

Realistic price points

Torfhus Retreat near Selfoss ($480) does turf-roof suites with private hot tubs and enforces a 16-plus policy in the spa wing. Hotel Budir on Snaefellsnes ($350) is a black wooden church-side hotel where the fireplace and 4-course dinner make bringing kids feel wrong. Ion Adventure Hotel ($380) isn’t officially adults-only but has no cots, no kids' menu and a bar that runs late.

Before you book

What people ask before booking Selfoss.

Is the Blue Lagoon itself adults-only?

No, the main lagoon accepts kids 2 and up. The Retreat lagoon, accessed through the Retreat Hotel, effectively is.

Are these hotels good for solo travellers?

Torfhus and Ion have the best bars for solos. Deplar and the Retreat skew heavily couple.
